MIDDLEFIELD INFO
A few observations and a repository of information for a small town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts _____________________________________________________________________________________________
The 2024 Town Election
Curt Robie is running for re-election to the Middlefield Selectboard. During his three-year tenure discretionary town spending has increased by over 40%. The Town can no longer afford Curt Robie.
I support Al Sirard for Selectman. Al has previously served on the Selectboard and I respect his proven record of fiscal restraint. Al retired from the military and is an electrician. We need his practical experience to deal with our deteriorating town building stock.
Below is Al’s candidate statement. Please vote for Al.
Al Sirard Candidate for Middlefield Selectman
Hello my name is Al Sirard and I am a candidate for Middlefield Selectman. (It will be Albert Sirard, Chipman Rd, on the paper ballot). Voting will be on Saturday May 4, 2024 at the Town Hall from 8:00 AM to noon. (Or early voting at Town Clerk’s office from 1-6pm on Monday April 22 or 29.)
Middlefield is a small, quaint and informal town where everyone knows each other. My family and I moved here over 28 years ago because we were drawn to the small-town family values and the picturesque countryside.
I was previously elected to our Selectboard as well as being a retired army veteran after serving our country for 32 years and owned an electrical contracting business, and did building maintenance supervision at a large commercial facility. Over the years I have volunteered my master electrical services at the Middlefield Fair.
I don’t know if your current tax bill shocked you like it did me but I feel we have to check our town spending activities and look into reducing waste. The items on our current agenda will once again raise our taxes, instead of dropping from this year’s massive increase. If this continues many citizens will be forced to leave.
I am asking the voting public to show up at our town hall meeting and vote. Unfortunately, only a select few citizens exercise their right to vote on many monetary and pressing town issues, such as choosing their Selectman. If you feel as I do that there needs to be changes made to our current spending habits, I ask for your vote.
As Selectman, I will have to make many decisions for the town. I will work to reduce costs while keeping in mind we must move forward as a community, as well. I will welcome your input and suggestions during my term.
Our town consists of many diverse citizens with the same goal, to keep our town running smoothly and financially affordable for everyone. I feel very fortunate to be living in Middlefield and believe we will achieve these goals if we work together as a team.
I humbly ask for your vote on Saturday May 4 as Selectman for Middlefield.
Al Sirard
